Pharmapac completes final hurdle with support from NWDA

24th June 2010

Pharmapac UK Ltd, based in Birkenhead, has been awarded the final instalment of a £215,000 grant from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), which has enabled them to increase productivity and expand the workforce after successfully winning new business.

Pharmapac (UK) Ltd, which is a contract manufacturing and packing company for the pharmaceutical industry, produces and fills blister packs, sachets, tubes and bottles for well-known pharmaceutical brands.

Pharmapac recently won two large contracts, valued at £2.4 million, which have enabled the company to create 50 jobs within Birkenhead.

The grant funding has allowed the company to become a competitive global player in this highly lucrative market.

The grant was originally awarded in October 2008, as a Selective Finance for Investment grant (SFI). SFI was an NWDA scheme designed to support new capital investment projects for businesses to improve their productivity, skills and employment within certain parts of the region.

SFI was preceded by Grants for Business Investment in 2009.

Grants for Business Investment (GBI), is part of 'Solutions for Business', the Government's package of publicly funded business support designed to help companies start and grow.

Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive, NWDA said:

"The NWDA grant has provided Pharmapac with an exciting opportunity to expand its business. It is important that manufacturing-related companies are supported to enable the region to continue to compete, not only at a national level, but an international level."

Ian Robinson, MD, Pharmapac (UK) Ltd said:

"The award of the grant was critical in winning the new contracts. The collaboration between Pharmapac and the NWDA has facilitated sustainable growth and created many new opportunities for local people."

The NWDA is playing a crucial role in response to the current economic downturn, with a number of actions being taken to meet the needs of businesses during these challenging times.
