NWDA Grant puts safety first for Advanced Engineering

12 January 2010

The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has agreed to a £140,000 Grant for Business Investment (GBI) to be awarded to TRaC EMC & Safety Ltd, safeguarding 6 existing jobs and creating 8 new roles.

Established in 2005, TRaC (Testing, Regulatory and Compliance) Ltd is one of the largest testing, validation and certification test firms in the country. With a regional base in Skelmersdale, the company ensure compliance with regulatory standards for commercial, Defence and Aerospace manufacturers in the Advanced Engineering and Materials Sector.

With GBI assistance TRaC will relocate its Northwest operation to a more suitable premise within Skelmersdale, improving capability and increasing capacity and testing facilities. This will ensure the facility remains in the region, benefiting both Northwest customers and the regional supply chain.

GBI, is part of Solutions for Business, the Government's package of publicly funded business support designed to help companies start and grow.

Mark Hughes, Executive Director of Economic Development at the NWDA said:

"With funding from the NWDA TRaC will be able to achieve significant growth, ensuring its 49 employees can remain in full time employment within the region.

"The Advanced Engineering and Materials industry is one of the region's key sectors, maintaining international competitiveness through continued investment in knowledge and technology."

Mark Heaven, Chief Executive of TRaC commented:

"We had planned to relocate our facilities in the Northwest at the end of 2012, but it became clear that in order to remain competitive and match the current expectations of a regulatory, test and qualification facility, a move sooner was needed to help secure and service our clients.

"The grant for business from the NWDA enabled us to bring the move forward three years. Our clients and staff will now benefit from new state of the art testing facilities in an important sector for the Northwest.

"We are also delighted that the specialist and bespoke Semi Anachoic Chambers that we require for our business have been sourced and ordered from Rainford EMC Systems Ltd in St Helens, keeping this large manufacturing order in the UK and more importantly in the North West."

The NWDA is playing a crucial role in response to the current economic downturn, with a number of actions being taken to meet the needs of businesses during these challenging times
