Am I Eligible?

Please note that the Northwest Regional Development Agency is not accepting any new funding applications, or processing existing ones, at the present time.

Government has required us to substantially reduce our expenditure and as a result we have embarked on a comprehensive project review, including how we provide financial support for the region's businesses.

We appreciate this may cause some uncertainty, particularly if you have an application underway; if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact your usual Agency contact. More information is available on the NWDA website.

Only Small to Medium Sized companies based in the Northwest of England and with up to 250 employee's (as defined by the European Commission) are eligible to apply for support under this scheme. The full definition of an SME can be found at:

http://europa.eu/scadplus/leg/en/lvb/n26026.htm

Not all SME's are eligible however due to European funding rules. Ineligible business activities include:

  • Those covered by EC sectoral restrictions: These include the production of synthetic fibres, textiles and clothing, shipbuilding, coal and steel, agriculture and Annex 1 food processing.
  • Banks and insurance companies.
  • Establishments providing generalised (school age) education.
  • Provision of local social welfare facilities eg hospitals, nursing homes, fire stations, day nurseries, child-minding facilities, sports facilities, parks, public libraries.

Please refer to the Grant for Improving Your Resource Efficiency guidelines for further details.
