Am I Eligible?

Please note that the Northwest Regional Development Agency is not accepting any new grant applications, or processing existing ones, at the present time.

Government has required us to substantially reduce our expenditure and as a result we have embarked on a comprehensive project review, including how we provide financial support for the region's businesses.

We appreciate this may cause some uncertainty, particularly if you have an application underway; if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact your usual Agency contact. More information is available on the NWDA website.

Businesses of all sizes can apply for a Grant for Business Investment. The main criteria is that the project for which you are applying is located within the Northwest.

The level of grant support typically ranges from between 10% to 35% of the project's total capital expenditure. The minimum threshold for grant applications is £10,000, therefore you need to be spending in the region of £100,000 on fixed assets.

Other criteria determining eligibility and how much you can apply for includes:

  • Size and location of your business. Use the postcode tool below to find out how much support you could receive. Alternatively speak to the Universal Service Brokers at Business Link Northwest to discuss your business requirements on 0845 00 66 888.
  • Industry sector - The Northwest Regional Economic Strategy identifies six priority sectors. You are more likely to be considered for a grant if you operate within one of these. The sectors include:
  1. advanced manufacturing (aerospace, automotive, chemicals, advanced flexible materials)
  2. biomedical (biotechnology, medical and pharmaceuticals)
  3. creative and digital industries
  4. business and professional services
  5. energy and environmental technologies
  6. food and drink

To see whether your company is in an 'assisted area' please use the postcode checker (please note that if you are a SME you may be eligible for an extra 10% of support) and refer to the GBI map under the 'related documents' section.
